When a fund management company wants to register a fund with CMVM(our local SEC), after conducting due diligence, the legal team from CMVM will issue an official communication. If favorable they will attribute a unique number to that fund.<\/p>\n
The fund management company must then submit the ISIN and LEI codes
ISIN stands for International Securities Identification Number
LEI stands for Legal Entity identifier.
Both are unique international identifiers in regards to a specific entity. In this case a financial entity and fund.<\/p>\n
You can check both of these online and see if the entities are active.<\/p>\n
In addition, you can also ask for the audit report to the audit company, like Ernst and Young for instance, and also a report to CMVM directly in regards to the fund you are interested in.<\/p>\n
